I read a guest post on the Marketing Tips for Authors blog by the writer Maria Zannini (she is American, but evidently of Italian origins), who talked about the three levels of editorial promotion . I want to bring these concepts back so that it becomes clear to writers how important certain initiatives and certain behaviors and habits are to improve their visibility and increase the chances of selling their books. Passive editorial promotion I spoke in August about passive editorial marketing . As Maria Zannini also wrote, it is the easiest of all marketing, because, once set up, it works on its own and forever.
Among the various forms that I had listed we can add others, found in the writer's guest post: book trailer: they are shared continuously, so they carry out their promotional work every day; online and offline advertising; business cards. Proactive editorial promotion If you don't know the term "proactive", open a dictionary and look it up. It's the most laborious type of Special Data promotion for a writer, but not difficult. But it is the one that brings the most results. I have talked about this type of promotion several times, which I list below: Social media for writers How to promote a book on your site 5 mistakes of an aspiring writer They correspond to what was written by Maria Zannini, who talks about blogging, Facebook, forums.
But she adds another, an offline activity: signing copies of the book at literary events. Lateral editorial promotion According to Zannini, there is a third level, which she calls "lateral". This lateral promotion is an activity that does not directly promote the writer, does not serve to sell a book, but increases the fame of an author. The writer talks about activities such as participating in conferences and literary events as volunteers. This kind of volunteering strengthens a writer's image and still helps to increase her presence in the public. Maria Zannini lists other forms of lateral promotion, which I also talked about in the blog: How much do you socialize as writers? Article marketing for writers Guest posts How many of you apply these three levels of editorial promotion?
